Today, the Nigeria Police Force’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit responded quickly to reports from residents in Maiduguri, recovering dangerous unexploded military devices. This was a swift and professional response that ensured the safety of everyone in the area.
In the Dala Kacchallah area, the police found six unexploded projectiles and one mortar bomb near an uncompleted building. These items were likely washed up by the recent flooding. The EOD team also found a military hand grenade at the Gwange Riverbank.
Thanks to quick action by the EOD-CBRN team, all the dangerous devices were safely removed, and the area was declared safe again.
The good news is that there were no injuries, no damage, and no loss of life during the operation. The police also held awareness campaigns to teach people about the dangers of unexploded ordnances and how to stay safe.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the police team for their professionalism and quick response. Investigations are underway to find out where the dangerous items came from and to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
The IGP also reminded people not to touch suspicious objects and to report them to the police right away.
The Nigeria Police Force continues to work hard to protect citizens and keep communities safe from threats like these.
