The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down a major fake alcohol packaging centre in Lagos. This illegal operation was discovered at the Article Market in Abule-Osun, Lagos State.
During the raid, NAFDAC seized over 50,000 fake labels and packaging materials used to produce counterfeit alcoholic drinks. These materials were worth an estimated N2 billion. The fake alcohol made from these materials was not only illegal but also dangerous to health.
NAFDAC said these products could cause serious health problems like poisoning and organ damage because they were made without proper approval or safety standards.
NAFDAC has warned people about the dangers of consuming fake alcohol. These products are made with harmful substances that can damage your body.
Fake alcohol can cause poisoning and even damage your organs,” NAFDAC said in a statement.
To avoid the risks of fake alcohol, NAFDAC advises Nigerians to:
Buy alcoholic drinks only from trusted shops, Avoid drinks with poor packaging or suspicious labels, Report any illegal activities involving fake products to NAFDAC.
This action by NAFDAC is part of their ongoing efforts to protect Nigerians from harmful products. Counterfeit alcohol not only threatens lives but also affects the economy by ruining the reputation of trusted brands.
By shutting down this illegal centre, NAFDAC is helping to ensure that only safe and approved products reach consumers.
