The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old woman, Mrs. Chinelo Onwuasonya, for stealing and trafficking children. She was caught on Wednesday at Amajeke Park in Owerri with three children she had abducted.
The children rescued were: Chinecherem Eze (3 years old), Delight Eze (1 year old) , Okeke Favour (3 years old).
These children were taken from different locations in Imo State.
The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Mr. Aboki Danjuma, spoke about the arrest on Thursday. He described it as an important step in the fight against child trafficking.
“This operation was carefully planned to make sure the children were safe and to stop the suspect’s trafficking network,” he said.
The Commissioner also confirmed that the children have been safely returned to their families. He said this has brought relief to the parents, who were worried and heartbroken during the time their children were missing.
Mr. Danjuma urged the public to always be watchful and report any suspicious activity. “Your vigilance is very important in stopping crimes like this,” he said.
