In February 2017, a terrible crime happened in Mugalivakkam, Chennai. A 23-year-old engineer named Dashwanth was found guilty of killing a 7-year-old girl named Hasini and his own mother. He has been sentenced to death for his actions.
Dashwanth lived with his parents, Sekar and Sarala. He bought a puppy to befriend Hasini, who lived nearby. One day, he took Hasini to his house, where he assaulted her. When she screamed, he killed her by suffocating her.
To hide his crime, Dashwanth put Hasini’s body in a bag, dumped it on a highway, and later burned it with petrol. Shockingly, he even pretended to help the police search for Hasini when she was reported missing.
Dashwanth was arrested after witnesses saw him with Hasini and carrying a bag. However, the police did not file the necessary paperwork in time. This allowed Dashwanth’s father to get him out of jail in September 2017.
After being released, Dashwanth committed another crime. On December 2, 2017, he killed his mother, Sarala, with a hammer after she asked him to get a job. He stole her jewelry and Rs. 20,000 before running away to Mumbai.
In Mumbai, Dashwanth sold the stolen items and used the money for gambling. He changed his appearance to avoid being caught but was eventually arrested by the police.
In court, Dashwanth first admitted to his crimes but later said he was innocent. However, the evidence against him was strong. Witnesses saw him with Hasini before she disappeared. The bag used to carry her body was his, and DNA evidence proved his guilt.
On February 19, 2018, the court sentenced Dashwanth to death for killing Hasini. In July 2018, the Madras High Court agreed with the death sentence.
There is no confirmation yet of Dashwanth’s execution, but his actions are a reminder of the importance of protecting children and acting quickly against criminals.
