Three senior lecturers from Taraba State University (TSU) passed away within three days. The lecturers who died are: Prof. Akporido Samuel, Dr. Kiliobas Sha’a, and Dr. Ibrahim Saleh Bali.
Prof. Akporido Samuel, who was the former Head of the Department of Chemical Sciences, slumped and died in his office on Thursday.
Dr. Kiliobas Sha’a, former Head of the Department of Biological Sciences, passed away at his home after struggling with high blood pressure.
Dr. Ibrahim Saleh Bali died early on Sunday at the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo after being sick for a long time.
These lecturers were known to have been asking the Taraba State Government for better working conditions, higher pay, and better welfare for teachers. Sadly, the government had not agreed to their requests, and many believe that their poor working conditions may have contributed to their health problems.
Dr. Mbave Joshua, the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at TSU, was shocked by the deaths. He said that the working conditions at the university need to be improved to prevent more health issues among staff.
