Police in Kenya have rescued a 19-year-old man, Collins Sambaya, who was nailed to a tree. He was accused of stealing a radio. The incident happened in Chamasili village, Sabatia sub-county, on Friday, February 18.
The attacker, identified as Elvis Irime, used two roofing nails to pin Collins’ hands to a tree. The young man was left in pain and could not move.
North Izava location Chief, Evans Endesha, informed the police about the incident. When the police arrived, they found Collins suffering. The attacker ran away when he saw the police coming and is still on the run.
Collins was rescued by the police and taken to Mbale County Referral Hospital. He is now receiving treatment and is in stable condition.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) issued a statement saying they have started a search for the suspect. The DCI described the incident as shocking and promised to find the person responsible for this cruel act.
“The villagers could not believe what had happened. They watched as the police rescued the young man and took him to the hospital,” the DCI said in the statement.
The people in the village were very upset and called for justice. Many others across Kenya have also spoken out, saying such acts of cruelty should not happen.
The police have asked anyone with information about the suspect to report to them immediately.
