The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has officially suspended two of its pastors following serious allegations of homosexuality that quickly circulated across social media platforms. This announcement, made in a memo dated October 28, 2024, was signed by Sunday Akande, RCCG’s National Overseer.
The memo, addressed to the Special Assistant to the General Overseer of Administration, mandates a comprehensive investigation into these claims. While the church emphasizes its stance on morality and biblical teachings, this suspension marks a serious commitment to upholding its standards of conduct.
In the memo, Akande highlighted RCCG’s unwavering stance against any form of homosexuality, citing biblical verses such as Leviticus 18:22 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. These verses, which are integral to RCCG's doctrine, outline moral principles that the church seeks to uphold in all aspects of its ministry. The memo reinforced that homosexuality, or any sexual conduct outside traditional Christian beliefs, is against RCCG’s teachings and core values.
The accused pastors have been temporarily relieved of their responsibilities in all RCCG mission bodies. This decision aims to ensure a fair and transparent investigation without any interference. Akande stated that the investigation will be concluded within a two-week period, allowing the church to make a fully informed decision based on the findings.
“This memo serves to inform you of serious allegations of homosexuality against certain pastors…,” Akande wrote. He underscored RCCG's commitment to biblical teachings, stressing the need for serious consideration and thorough investigation.
“In accordance with our mission’s commitment to upholding the teachings of the Bible, we must address these allegations with the utmost seriousness,” the memo read. Akande emphasized RCCG’s stance on moral conduct, explaining that these allegations warrant careful scrutiny.
The memo also cited Bible verses, such as Leviticus 18:22: “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.” Additionally, the church cited you for your email and the email I 1 Corinthians 6:9-10: “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality.
The RCCG is committed to handling the matter efficiently, with Akande directing all parties involved to cooperate fully. The church expects the investigation to be concluded within two weeks, ensuring a swift and fair resolution. While the pastors remain suspended, RCCG remains vigilant about maintaining the principles it stands for.
