It all started when some Hausa individuals attacked and killed several young boys in Agenebode. The police quickly arrested the suspects and took them to the Agenebode Police Division. They planned to move the suspects to the state headquarters in Benin City for further investigation.
The youths of Agenebode were furious about the killings. They wanted justice but were filled with anger. They planned to take matters into their own hands by attacking the Hausa suspects in police custody.
Despite the police trying to calm things down, the angry youths were not satisfied. They gathered together and stormed the police station.
The mob broke into the police station and freed the suspects. In the chaos, three suspects were captured and set on fire. One suspect was taken alive by the youths to show them where the victims had been buried.
After leading them to the burial site, the youths buried the suspect alive, just like their loved ones had been. They also destroyed many police records and exhibits in the station.
