JUST IN 💔: Lion Kills Handler at Olusegun Obasanjo Library Zoo in Ogun State

A sad event happened at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Wildlife Park in Abeokuta, Ogun State. A lion attacked and killed its handler, Babaji Daule, on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

Babaji Daule, a 35-year-old man from Bauchi State, was a trained lion handler. He was showing some guests how the male lion is fed, even though the park had already closed for the day. Unfortunately, Daule forgot to lock the lion's cage properly before going in to feed the animal.

The park's management said Daule felt too comfortable with the lion and left the protection gate open. This allowed the lion to get out and attack him. Daule was badly injured, especially in his neck, and died on the spot.

After the attack, the park staff quickly took action and put the lion down to stop it from causing more harm. The park management explained that Daule was not following the usual feeding schedule, and this accident happened outside their normal routine.

The police also confirmed the incident. According to police spokesperson Omolola Odutola, Daule's failure to lock the cage led to the attack. His body was later taken to the mortuary at Ijaye General Hospital in Abeokuta.

This sad event shows how important safety rules are when working with wild animals. Even though Daule was experienced, one small mistake cost him his life. This serves as a reminder that caution is always needed when handling dangerous animals like lions.
