BREAKING : Two Arrested for Selling Newborn Twins in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two women, Ujunwa Una and Chinelo Igbechionwu, for trying to sell newborn twins. The women were caught at Berger bus stop on September 9, 2024, with two six-day-old baby girls. They were traveling from Abia State to Lagos to deliver the babies to a nurse.

The women confessed to being paid ₦150,000 to transport the babies, saying the mother wanted to sell them because she couldn't care for them. The police have placed the babies in a motherless babies’ home for proper care.

Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest and said investigations are ongoing to find others involved. The suspects have been charged and appeared in court on September 19, 2024.

Child trafficking is a big problem in Nigeria. Some women sell their babies due to financial hardship, but this illegal act harms both the children and those involved.
