Pemberton was a pharmacist who wanted to make a medicinal drink to help with his pain from injuries during the American Civil War. In 1886, in his lab in Atlanta, Georgia, he created a syrup using coca leaves and kola nuts, mixed with carbonated water.
At first, this drink was sold as a medicinal tonic called "French Wine Coca." But when Atlanta banned alcohol in 1886, Pemberton changed his formula to make a non-alcoholic drink. This new drink was called Coca-Cola, and it quickly became popular for its unique and refreshing taste.
The famous Coca-Cola name and logo were created by Pemberton's partner, Frank M. Robinson. Even though Pemberton had to sell the rights to his formula to several partners due to financial and health issues, his creation became the foundation for one of the most recognized and valuable brands in the world.
