The Ogun State Police have arrested two kidnappers who are accused of killing their victims after taking ransom from their families. This news brings some relief to the local community, which has been affected by these crimes.
On June 28, 2024, the police caught Chukwuma Bartholomew and Igwe Monday in Ijebu-Igbo. This arrest followed an investigation by the anti-kidnapping squad, which linked the suspects to several kidnappings in the area.
The victims were Adekunle Ifelaja, a 71-year-old farmer, and Ogunyemi Femi. Adekunle was kidnapped on December 31, 2023, and Ogunyemi was taken on November 23, 2023. Even after their families paid ransom, both men were killed and buried in a shallow grave in a nearby forest.
According to Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson, the suspects were responsible for several kidnappings in Ijebu-Igbo. They would abduct victims, demand ransom, and then kill them. After confessing, the kidnappers led the police to the forest where the bodies were buried.
The news of the arrests has brought a mix of relief and sadness to the community. While the suspects are now in custody, the loss of Adekunle Ifelaja and Ogunyemi Femi is deeply felt by their families and friends.
While justice is being sought, the community is reminded of the need for unity and awareness to prevent such tragedies in the future. The police will continue to protect citizens and work towards a safer environment for everyone.
