The Nigeria Police Force, under the diligent leadership of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has achieved significant progress in combating crime across the country. Over the past six weeks, the police have made remarkable strides in ensuring the safety and security of Nigerian citizens.
In a series of operations, the Nigeria Police Force has arrested 1,284 suspects, including 307 armed robbery suspects, 296 kidnapping suspects, 301 homicide suspects, 176 rape and defilement suspects, and 204 suspected cultists. The police also recovered 284 firearms, 6,702 rounds of ammunition, and 107 vehicles. In addition, they rescued 97 kidnapped victims, bringing relief to many families.
One notable success was the apprehension of a notorious robbery syndicate operating in the Jos-North/Jos-South region of Plateau State. This gang, consisting of 16 members, was involved in stealing motorcycles and tricycles, posing as police officers using fake IDs to confiscate vehicles from motorists. Their arrest has brought an end to their reign of terror in the area.
In other operations, the police arrested a notorious robber known for breaking into homes and stealing money and valuables, particularly gold. They also nabbed a group of metal scavengers who smuggled valuables buried under refuse.
The IGP has commended the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force for their dedication and swift action in these operations. To further bolster the fight against crime, the IGP has established an Anti-Money Laundering unit at the Force Headquarters, headed by CP Hycenth Edozie Azuka. Additionally, a new commander for the IGP-STFPIB has been appointed to tackle oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
Under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun, the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to fulfilling its constitutional mandate to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians. The IGP has reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring the safety and security of every citizen and urges the public to cooperate with law enforcement to create a society where crime is minimal.
