Today was very sad. A distant friend of mine was affected by a school building collapse. Many families are grieving.
When I heard the news, I called my friend to check if it was true. At first, he didn’t know anything and rushed to the scene. I also spoke to another friend nearby who confirmed she heard about the collapse at work.
When I talked to my friend again, he sounded worried. He was at the site, looking at the rubble. He said, "Praises, I can't find my daughter. I'm still looking for her." Soon after, he called back, crying, and said, "She’s gone, my daughter is gone."
I felt tears in my eyes as I heard his pain. Later, I went to see him at the hospital. He had just dropped off his daughter’s body and couldn’t go home. He sat under a tree, lost in sadness.
He told me that three days ago, his daughter had a dream where he carried a small casket. He ignored it and told her not to worry. This morning, she didn’t want to go to school, but he insisted because she had an exam.
"Praises, I played with my daughter today. I gave her 500 naira for lunch. I thought everything was fine, and now look," he said, filled with regret. She was his only child.
It was heartbreaking to see other parents crying. One man lost all four of his children. Their grief was heavy.
Today, heaven received little angels. We mourn these innocent lives and pray for their souls to rest in peace. May the Lord comfort the families during this tough time.
